Description
Basic Video Setup
We run a total of four (4) cameras, two of which are remote controlled (PTZ). The cameras are connected to our hardware video switcher (Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme ISO), which is connected to one of our two (2) Mac Minis. On that Mac Mini (MM1), we run the ATEM control software on one of four (4) displays to monitor the camera inputs and what live feed is going out. We also run ProPresenter (second display) on the MM1 that handles our slides, confidence monitors, and other displays, including our projector and future in-house broadcast. Additionally, the MM1 connects to a hardware-based live streamer (Blackmagic Web Presenter HD) that then broadcasts to Restream, which distributes our broadcast to Facebook and Youtube.
Basic Audio Setup
From our in-house soundboard, we mix the audio separately for live stream before it is sent to the MM1 where the audio is mixed in ProPresenter to be sent to the live stream. Our soundboard is still analog, and we are using our existing microphones and lavalieres, which work well.
Guest Speakers & Hybrid Meetings
Our second Mac Mini (MM2) is used for Zoom meetings or webinars (third display), which allows us to bring in a guest speaker and project them onto the in-house screen and mix it into the live stream. To accomplish that, we mix the Zoom meeting into the switcher before it follows our standard flow from ProPresenter to live stream. We use a web camera and headset to communicate with the guest speaker while the service is going on and to let them know when they are up. We also capture our livestream (before it goes out to avoid a dely) and show it to the guest speaker so that they know what’s going on in the service and to play off the energy.
To handle the audio side of things, we use a USB audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 4i4) to bring the Zoom audio to the house sound, have it mixed into the live stream, and to bring back the house sound to the guest speaker. We also have the ability to talk to the stage or the congregation if necessary.
For hybrid meetings, we use the same setup where everyone on Zoom can follow the meeting. We can also bring one or more people into the meeting by projecting them on the screen (and live stream if used) so that they can participate in the meeting.
Drawing from the Pulpit
Our minister likes to draw from the pulpit to explain some of the concepts or ideas during his message. To accomplish that, we use an iPad and connect it wirelessly to an Apple TV. That image of the Apple TV is than captured and brought into the switcher where it enters our standard setup. In ProPresenter, the Apple TV is recognized as an additional camera, allowing us to use it accordingly (e.g., picture-in-picture, etc.).
Miscellaneous
We record the raw input data from each switcher channel onto an SSD in case the live stream fails.
Our pulpit iPad is also used display the order of service (rather than using paper).
The MM2 also shows the order of service on our fourth display for the tech team to follow along. Both the iPad and MM2 access the same data. So, there is consistency all the way through.
Future Developments
We’d like to upgrade our sound system from audio to digital, allowing us to control the audio board with presetting.
We are planning to utilize our Elgato ScreenDeck to program complex scenes for cameras, audio, and other settings.
We’d like to broadcast our live stream and other display options throughout the building (e.g., fellowship hall, YFM, nursery, green room, etc.).
